Laneway Festival 2014, Singapore

St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival Singapore 2014 is the fourth edition since it’s first held in 2011. Laneway Festival Singapore is still one of the best indie music festival  to be held in South East Asia. Nice venue and also beautiful people from around South East Asia gathered, to enjoy some good music from the hip and charming line-up this year.

It was a perfect weather at The Meadows ,Gardens by the Bay when the Australian rising star Vance Joy opened the festivals with his alt-rock music and pleased the crowd, especially for the girls.  And the festival continued with the intimate turned to festive music by Youth Lagoon performing songs like  ‘Mute’, ‘Cannons’, and closing his set with unexpectedly festive vibe rendition of ‘July’.

A really tight performance from the trio.  Unknown Mortal Orchestra or UMO in short, mesmerize the audience with their psychedelic rock, blues, a bit of groovy funk with a soulful  and husky vocals from singer/guitarist Ruban Nielson.  Kurt Vile and the Violators , whose the latest album ‘Wakin on a Pretty Daze’  made it to the top albums list in many medias, plays a pretty laidback set in  the mid afternoon.

There are new additions to this year’s Laneway Fest in Singapore. Local bands from Singapore added to the this year festival roster such as The Observatory, Vandetta, and an electornica artist Gema. And also There was a Third, smaller stage named Cloud Stage, concentrating on more Electronic and Dance music with line-ups like   XXYYXX (one of the crowd favorites) , Mount Kimbie, Jagwar Ma (DJ Set) and Jamie XX, successfully made the festival to have more diverse  music and audience.

Daughter’s music with singer Elena Tonra’s  delicate and mellow vocals could turned the festival into some intimate, romantic, and dreamy vibe in the night.  and soon after that, The Californian sisters ,Haim consists Este, Danielle and Alana, took the stage and delivered great energy and enthusiasm to the crowd, performing songs from their retro pop debut album ‘Days Are Gone’ which also made it to a lot of top list albums in 2013.

We arrived to the last to two tops on the headline of this year Laneway Festival Singapore.  The most darling artist in this festival was of course went to Chvrches’ Lead Vocalist, Lauren Mayberry. Powered by her distinctive and genuine personality, She was the crowd charmer (alongside with Alana Haim). The Glaswegian trio filled the festival with one of the most accessible electro-pop to date this year taken from their Debut album, ‘ The Bones of What You Believe’.

James Blake had been chosen as the Headliner for this year Laneway Festival Singapore 2014. James Blake (Nominated for Best new Artist at the Grammy Award) changed the festival mood into some a really strong gloomy but tasty vibe. James Blake with the other two additional musician delivered some heavy but clever music experience. Warm vocals mixed with cold-like music hypnotized the festival crowd. James Blake left the stage only with vocal loops  playing through the PA speakers, concluded this year’s Festival.

St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival in it’s 4th year ,still got the charm to gather indie-music lovers from the South East Asia. Let’s just hope and we better prepare for  next  year’s Laneway Festival, and try to guess who are going fill the line-up bill in the 2015 edition.
